Unveiling the superfine touch

Unveiling my new orvis superfine touch 804-4.  Looking forward to use it mainly for nymphs and dries! Has a 25 year warranty so I will be sure to fish it hard.

Crazy few hours on the EB today

I have no clue where to start.  It is one of those weird days out there today.  I got three nice hits, two on a pupa caddis and one on a streamer.  Not good enough hook sets to keep the trout on though. I was shunked again today.

I did manage to hook up with another brute carp.  Looked to be at least 15 to 20 pounds.  It was a good 10 minute battle but the line snapped.  This is the 5th carp I've hooked and either the hook pulls out or the line breaks.

I did get to witness and take a picture of a fellow angler's catch out there today.  He landed this monster rainbow almost looked like a hybrid with a cutty.  It had a lot of red color under it's gill plate.  Def a great catch, glad i was there to see it.

I ended up stepping on another anglers fly rod today.  It was laying down on the path and i did not even notice it.  I stepped on it and broke the rod right in half.  I felt terrible and the angler was pretty upset over this.  He drove all the way up from the city to fly fish.  I ended up giving him my 4 wt orvis streamline rod that i only use for dry flies. I liked that rod, it was a gift and has landed me lots of nice trout over the years.  He was pretty happy with it and he could still fish for the day. Hopefully he enjoys it as much as i did.

Caught by a fellow angler, not by me.  I took the picture. Great catch!

Nice 10 minute battle with the brute carp, pretty close to landing it like always.  The line snapped.  Was def over 30" at least.  Big hog took a massive streamer.

Brook Trout

Brook trout from the 2012 fly fishing season (Caught in either NY,CT,PA,VT, or NH)

All on dries

Quick work at the EB, managed to land these three small stockie browns within 2 hours.  All 3 took either a BWO or an adams. I had a decent looking trout chase down my bugger but did not end up hitting it.

East Branch 8.9.12

The east branch was fairly active today. I landed a few trout.  Enjoy the pics!

Nailed a yum yum emerger used as a dropper from a bead head prince size 12 nymph.

A nice brown that took a "I can see it midge" in size 18, the color was olive.  This brown put up a great fight.  Browns love those dry flies.

Another small brown that took a BWO size 18

Hammer a size 12 prince nymph!  They usually hit the dropper nymph, but not this one.

Last but not least, this brown hit a white bugger full force!

Video: Musky Country: Zero 2 Hero Trailer

Probably the best fly fishing film I have ever seen hands down. Hopefully one day in my life I can catch a muskie on a fly.

Video: Thunder River Trailer

Great watch, definitely recommend getting/watching this dvd

Fly Review: Galloup's Barely Legal

This is a sweet streamer, it has 2 hooks and really draws a lot of attention from the big trout. It definitely is one of my favorite streamers.  It is an articulated streamer that i have personally seen large trout take interest in. It really pulls those pigs out from their holes.  I have not landed a trout on it yet but i am confident this pattern will produce some nice trout down the road.  If you enjoy fishing streamers as much as i do, you will like this pattern.  It comes in size 4 if you wish to purchase it.  I have casted it using a 5 wt rod and it feels alright.  A 6 wt rod would be preferred when fishing this fly.

Fly Review:Yum Yum Emerger

The Yum Yum emerger is a pattern that represents an emerging caddis.  Trout seem to nail this pattern anytime i use it as a dropper.  I use size 16 and it has produced lots of hits for me.  The crystal flash on the top of this fly really seems to attract trout to it.  If you enjoy catching trout, make sure you fish this pattern!

East Branch rainbows and carp..almost

I almost landed a nice carp today at the east branch.  This is my 5th time trying to target carp using a fly.  Out of the 5 times i fly fished for carp, i hooked up with 4 already.  All of them took a white size 10 bugger.  I just cant seem to land one though.  The one today i battled for about 15 minutes...longest amount of time i had a carp on.  I tried my best but it got all wrapped up in a fallen tree and the fly broke off.  It looked to be about 20-25 pounds.....

Carp battle: If you look close, you can see my leader sticking out of the water.

Some nice rainbows: One on a white bugger and the other on a yum yum emerger nymph, size 16 in brown. Both put on a nice fight.

Fly Review: Le Bug

This is a productive pattern to have in your fly box.  I've had hits on this all year round.  I'll never forget the huge hit i had on this fly in the middle of winter.  The trout ended up getting off before i could land it, but it looked like a nice football! Use this as a dropper and the trout will be all over it.  I have a few in the black and orange colors in size 18 that seem to work well for me.  The Le Bug works best when fished right off the bottom.

Quick stop at the EB

I fly fished the east branch for 2 hours today.  I landed one feisty brown on a white bugger and a nice rainbow on a midge size 18 dropper nymph.  I had one big brown that looked to be 16-17" chase my bugger but that is as far as he wanted to go. I tried dry fly fishing for about 20 minutes and missed 2 nice hits somehow!
