Tested out Ross Essence FW 7 weight

I got a chance to go fishing on Friday. Felt pretty good to be able to get out on the reservoir in the middle of December. The focus was not solely on fly fishing. I did some trolling and even brought my spinning rod hoping for a trout right under the surface.

It was nice to try out this new Ross Essense FW 7 weight fly rod though.  I was using full sinking line.  The rod has a lot of power, and it felt very light in my hand.  Solid rod for sure.  Looking forward to actually hooking up with a fish on it.  Hopefully when the time comes I will land some steelhead or even a carp on this rod.  I will also use it for tossing big poppers for bass in the spring.  The fly I was tossing was a black rouse's poodle, looks like it would produce a big brown if you asked me.

Rod all setup and ready to be put to use.

Very happy with the rod, casts well. Nothing was landed on it though, maybe next time!

  1. John it's nice that you got to go out there with different tackle, especially Fly fishing gear. I look forward to next season taking some FF gear out on one of my boats and landing some fish. Hopefully Santa will bring me a 7wt outfit!!!

    1. hey manny,

thanks dude! Was nice to get out there and test that rod with some casting. Would have been nice to land something on it though. Can't expect to much fishing this time of year though.
